As the name suggests, care associations exist to provide care within the community. They can help with a variety of things from oral care to providing advice. They have volunteers and professionals who come together to help people who need special attention or those that are underprivileged or vulnerable and cannot care for themselves. Some of the areas where care associations provide services are:
Caring For the Elderly
Once people get to an advanced age, they become dependent on caregivers to help them do most of their activities. This could include things like filing taxes or putting information about their property in order. It could also be in the provision of healthcare services like ensuring they have taken their medication, helping them to move up and about, providing them with comfort and entertainment, among other needs.
Advocacy and Lobbying
Other than hands-on care, these associations also engage in advocacy and lobbying for a change of laws that will make life more comfortable for the underrepresented. They could lobby for a change of legislation and champion for the protection of minority rights. They can also hold activities like demonstrations to champion for changes within the community.
Working For Children
Children are considered a vulnerable group and care associations provide services that enable children to live in a safe environment. This could be in the form of giving them a home to live in, removing them from abusive situations, and keeping them safe.
Helping People With Special Needs
This includes people who are living with disabilities and find it hard to navigate through life without help. Care associations work with people with disabilities by ensuring that they are safe and have access to basic needs. This could be within the organizations that the people with special needs are or home-based care for those that are severely disabled. The providers give a myriad of services such as physiotherapy, provision of meals, among others.
